Nautical Theme Wedding
Tranquil Nautical Weddings
For couples that love to be on the water, a nautical theme wedding is
the ideal wedding theme. Nautical theme weddings are also fitting for a
couple that may have met on a cruise, enjoys building model ships, or
perhaps enjoys nautical memorabilia. The nautical theme is very polished
and romantic. Ships evoke a magical mood and a nautical theme wedding
can carry that feeling.
Decorations
A nautical theme wedding should be decorated with ships or sailboats in
mind. Navy, white, red, silver, gold, and black are perfect colors to
use with this theme. Rope is an essential tool of the water and can be
used creatively in the wedding decor.
Brides can make rope more feminine by adding
tulle and strings of white
lights. These rope decorations can be draped from the ceiling and on the
outside of pews or chairs. Real lifesavers and buoys can be used as
props.
Aisle runners with messages are becoming huge hits for wedding decor. A
great idea is to buy or make an aisle runner that reads, “Sail Away With
Me”. Detailed decorations such as this one add originality to the theme.
Another creative detail brides can use with the nautical wedding theme
is the unity sand. This is used in place of the unity candle. Two
decorative containers are filled with sand and one empty container is
set in the middle. The bride and groom each pour sand from one of the
two filled containers to fill the middle container. The idea is the same
as with the unity candle, however the unity sand corresponds with the
nautical theme.
Attire
Brides choosing the nautical theme are limitless when it comes to dress
choice. For a casual wedding, brides might choose to wear a skirted
suit. For more formal weddings, anything goes.
Brides can wear long formal dresses or short modern dresses. This theme
allows the bride to choose what she likes and go with it. The dresses
for the attendants can be any style as well, however it is suggested
they are in a nautical color.
Attire for the men can be traditional or fun. For a traditional look,
brides can choose classic tuxedos. For a less formal wedding, white or
navy suits would work beautifully. If the bride wants to have a bit of
fun, she can choose to dress the men in sailor suits. Including sailor
hats with the suits is an adorable way to add to the theme. Whether or
not brides choose to dress the men in sailor suits, they should
definitely dress the ring bearer in one. The pillow carried by the ring
bearer can be made to look like a lifesaver, coordinating with the
theme.
Music
Music for a nautical wedding can include almost any genre. A nice idea
is to use singers from the 40’s such as Frank Sinatra. He was popular in
a time of war when sailors usually married their brides right on the
ship before heading off to battle.
Using recordings of ocean sounds is also great for this theme. There are
some collections of ocean sounds that include instrumental music set to
waves crashing. Any music that is chosen should be light and have an
airy feel to capture the nautical theme.
Nautical theme weddings are a beautiful way to celebrate the love
between two people. There is something relaxing about being near the
ocean and this theme captures that relaxed mood. So, sit back and plan a
tranquil nautical theme wedding.
