How to Make Homemade Wedding Decorations

Professional wedding decorations can take up a majority of your wedding budget if you allow. However, by making homemade wedding decorations you can save a bundle. Just think, that extra money can be used on shopping for your honeymoon.

Doing it yourself not only saves money, but it also allows you to fully participate in your wedding decorations and achieve the exact look you are going for. To learn how to make homemade wedding decorations, follow these simple directions. Experiment until you get your desired look. Be creative and have fun!

Tulle Bows

Tulle bows can cost much more than you would expect when ordered from a florist or wedding planner. However, they are among the easiest wedding decorations to make and can be used anywhere. Tulle can be purchased by the yard or by the roll at most fabric stores. It is usually more cost efficient to buy an entire roll, as you can definitely find a place to use this versatile fabric. You will also need clear plastic ties, similar to bread ties.

To make a bow you will need to cut three yards of material. After cutting, gather the material to make a long strip. Next, simply tie the material into a bow, much like a shoestring. Make sure the bow is tight. Then, you can fluff the material on each side of the bow to make it look fuller. Do this by pulling on the material in the inner part of each loop. Finally attach a plastic tie to the back. The tie will allow you to attach the bows to pews or anywhere else you would like. Bows can be accessorized with flowers or ribbon.

Table Decorations

An easy and low-cost idea for a table decoration is decorative homemade candleholders. To make these original holders, you will need martini or margarita glasses, spools of ribbon with bead embellishments, a hot glue gun, and tea light candles. Simply hot glue the embellished ribbon onto the outer rim of each glass and let it dry. Ribbons with hanging beads work great for this project. Finally, place the tea light candles into the glass and light. These look wonderful on reception tables.

Bouquets

Floral decorations can take up an enormous chunk of a wedding budget. Bouquets can be extremely costly. Making them yourself is fun and can save you money. Easy bouquets can be made with fresh flowers or with faux flowers. To save time on your wedding day, it is suggested you use faux flowers.

To create a beautiful and easy bouquet you will need several flowers. Using flowers of the same color is an effective way to create a uniform look. If you choose to use a variety of colors, it is best to stick with the same type of flower. You will also need shipping tape, wide ribbon, and a few pins with pearls at the end.

Simply gather the flowers together and cut the stems to a desired length. Hold the stems closely together and wrap them tightly with shipping tape. Cut the tape and secure the end. Next, wrap the ribbon tightly around the stems, layering it up and down in a spiral motion. After no stem is showing, simply cut the ribbon and secure it with a few pins. This creates a beautiful homemade bouquet.

Learning how to make homemade wedding decorations is easy and fun. Although homemade wedding decorations cut costs in your budget, they can still be beautiful and creative. So gather your family and friends to make your wedding decorations yourself!
