The Getaway Car: Tips For Decorating A Wedding Car
Traditionally, the groom’s attendants sneak out to the couples’ getaway
car during the reception and decorate it with cans and shaving cream.
While these ideas still work, a few tips and new creative pranks will
add more fun and originality to the decorating task, leaving the bride
and groom truly surprised.
It is probably best to say that the most important thing to consider
when decorating the wedding car is safety. You must use items that will
not cause the car to be damaged or be unable to be driven. That being
said, let’s move on.
The most used product in traditional wedding car decoration is shaving
cream. The cons of shaving cream (it’s messy, it melts and runs in heat,
etc.) spurred companies to create a new form of message writing. The new
form, a car painting pen, is the perfect update for wedding car
decoration. The marker is wide and can be used effectively on windows or
anywhere else on the car. It washes off nicely in a carwash as well and
does not damage the car’s paint.
Anything attention grabbing is wonderful for the wedding car decorating
task. Another traditional idea groomsmen love to use is to attach birth
control items to the car. While this can be hilarious, it is not
appropriate for all couples. Religious brides and grooms may be more
offended than anything if their car is decorated in this manner. So, in
hopes of finding something less offensive, but just as attention
grabbing, we turn to food.
Imagine seeing a car going down the road covered with pieces of bread or
snack cakes. Most people would laugh out loud at its oddity. To
elaborate on this idea, groomsmen could decorate the passenger side of
the car with the bride’s favorite food and the driver’s side with the
grooms, making the gag more personalized. Just a note, string works best
to attach food.
Toilet paper is still a great way to cover a wedding car. Wrapping the
entire car with toilet paper will definitely grab the attention of
others on the road. The only con to this idea is that if the paper flies
off in route, it will be a littering disaster. Another wrapping idea is
aluminum foil or colored saran wrap. Groomsmen could even wrap the doors
so the bride and groom have to struggle and rip the wrap to get inside.
For considerate groomsmen who want to create a more polite wedding car,
whipped cream and flower petals can be used. By covering the car
completely with whipped cream and then sticking flower petals all over
it, the groomsmen can create a beautiful, yet messy wedding car.
No matter what the groomsmen have up their sleeves, the wedding car
decorating task is meant to be fun and surprising for all involved. By
keeping a good sense of humor, the wedding couple can laugh at the
wedding car decorations, all the way to the carwash.
