Exciting 50th Wedding Anniversary Decor
Couples celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary this year would have
been married in the 1950s. The fifties were a time of fresh young faces
with dreams as big as the sky. The music and fashion of this era are
unmistakable. When planning a celebration for the couple celebrating
their 50th wedding anniversary, why not plan them a 1950s theme party?
Decorations for this 50th wedding anniversary could imitate the era of
their original wedding and allow them to “remember when”. Using the
clothing, style, and music of the era will provide wonderful inspiration
when decorating for a 50th wedding anniversary event.
An anniversary event with a 1950s theme should be less than formal. The
style of the era was more casual. Girls often wore trademark poodle
skirts, cashmere sweaters, and white socks with two-toned bucks. Guys
wore jeans and tight tee shirts with their sleeves rolled up, and a tub
of grease in their hair. It was a typical scene from the movie Grease.
When planning an anniversary event with a 1950s theme it is a great idea
to inform your guests ahead of time and request that they were
appropriate clothing for the era. This will allow them to actively
participate in the theme of the party.
To decorate the location, think about using colors of white, black,
pink, and red. These colors were used often during this time period.
Seafoam green can be used as an accessory color as well. Black and white
checkered patterns were hot and can be used in decor as well. One idea,
is to decorate the cake in a black and white checkered pattern, using
pink or seafoam green as highlight colors.
Balloons and regular party streamers are also great decorative tools for
a 50th anniversary event of this theme. They take the look back to the
1950s prom and provide a fun party atmosphere. In addition to being
great decoratively, they are also low cost and easy to assemble.
Try finding old silver framed chairs with vinyl (or “pleather”) seats on
them, much like the chairs of the 1950s diners. Using diner inspired
tables with metal stripping around the edges is another great way to tie
the theme into the decor. Guests will enjoy sitting at this retro tables
while enjoying the party.
Music was a huge part of everyone’s lives during the 1950s. Artists such
as Harry Belafonte, Nat King Cole, Hank Williams, Buddy Holly, and non
other than Elvis Presley were hot on the scene. A fun way to incorporate
the music of the time into the party is to rent a jukebox of 1950s music
for guests to choose and play throughout the event. The fun music
playing will inspire them to dance the night away. For a more dramatic
music addition, consider hiring an Elvis impersonator or a band that
specializes in 1950s music.
Favors for the event should also be era inspired. One great way to
include to theme into the favors is to use candy from the 1950s. Era
specific candy can be ordered for your event. Candy such as Boston Baked
Beans, Atomic Fireball, and Astro Pop will stir up memories for the
anniversary couple as well as many of their guests. Bagging these candy
choices into modest candy bags with ribbons is an easy way to treat your
guests.
Decorations for a 50th wedding anniversary don’t have to be traditional
and frumpy. You can have a wonderful 1950s inspired celebration to
document the era of the anniversary couple’s original wedding. An event
of this theme will leave your guests exhausted from having so much fun!
