Traveling Back In Time For Your 40th Anniversary

A couple that is celebrating their 40th anniversary would have been married sometime in the 1960s. The 60s were a time of free spirit and civil liberties. The music and style of the period was outrageous and colorful.

To decorate for a 40th wedding anniversary, most people choose typical bell decorations and white streamers. This 40th wedding anniversary decor is lovely, but why not spice up a boring 40th wedding anniversary party with funky decor from the 1960s?

The fashion style of the 60s included mini skirts for women and new polyester pants for men. Tights were invented during this time and were a phenomenal fashion trend. Tights allowed women to go without girdles or suspender belts. Men even wore boots and shoes will heels. Pill box hats were also a huge hit. Jackie Kennedy was a great fashion icon during this time and many women imitated her dress.

It is always fun to allow guests of a theme related event in on the theme before the actual party so they can dress to fit the theme. This allows them to feel more comfortable with the theme and to have fun. Everyone loves to dress up!

The Beatles were enormous in the 1960s with fans all over the world. A good way to bring the musical influence of the 60s into your party is to hire a band that specializes in this era of music. Hearing “Ticket to Ride” or “I Saw Her Standing There” will really pump your guests up for the party.

Other musical artist of the time included Otis Redding, the Righteous Brothers, and Dusty Springfield. A great anniversary song of the 60s is “I’ve Got You Babe” performed by Sonny and Cher.

When decorating for your 40th wedding anniversary, think hippie inspired style. Bright colors were popular in the 1960s and you can use them to decorate for the event. An easy centerpiece idea is the lava lamp. Lava lamps are decorative by themselves and were extremely popular during the 60s. Bright pink and orange flowers are great to hang along the walls of your event location.

To dress up the ceiling, consider hanging colorful beads. These beads can be cut so they don’t get in the way of the guests’ dancing, but can still be seen and enjoyed. They are low-cost and easy to attach. Colorfully beaded necklaces are also good to use as party favors. Smiley face accessories can also be used for favors. Bouncing balls or notepads with smiley faces on them can be bought almost anywhere.

Another trademark item of the 60s was Gumby. Gumby was a very popular cartoon and figurine during this era. Gumby dolls and his friends can still be ordered and are great for favors of this theme.

40th wedding anniversary decorations can be as wild and crazy as you desire. Planning a 1960s inspired party to celebrate the wedding anniversary is an exciting way to add a fun element to the event. So, start planning and have a blast!
