How to Plan an Ocean Theme Wedding

Ocean theme weddings are perfect for couples who love the open shore and do not want to have a traditional wedding. Theme weddings are becoming popular. These ceremonies give couples the freedom to be playful, if they choose too.

Ocean theme weddings can be formal or casual. The wedding can be held in a reception hall overlooking the ocean, or it can be held out on the sand. Nautical weddings are unique and perfect for summer nuptials. Couples looking to have an outdoor wedding should consider the possibility of saying, "I do," by the sea.

There are a lot of details involved with planning a wedding. A big detail that should be immediately addressed is where to have the wedding and reception. Those planning their wedding on the beach may not realize how important it is to quickly secure a location. Most beaches grant public access and are free to use. However, those planning events may need to acquire a permit from the city.

Couples who want an ocean theme wedding, but do not want to have their wedding on the actual beach should secure a reception hall. To create a real beach feeling they may want to select a hall that has an ocean view. Hotels and homes with swimming pools or lakeside access are also perfect. If the couple has a large budget, they may opt to rent a small yacht for their ceremony.

Invitations for ocean theme weddings should be creative. The design and word selection should correspond to the type of ceremony. Formal nautical wedding invitations should be elegant and classy. Including a design of a sea shell, dolphin, or wave adds a nice classy touch.

Casual weddings can have colorful invitations. Invitations should include a note informing guests of the type of ceremony, and the proper attire. Guests should be made aware of ceremonies that will be held on the sand.

Beach theme decor is essential for ocean theme weddings. Many inexpensive decorations can be used for nautical weddings. Palms trees can be rented for both outdoor and indoor use. These will make guests feels as if they are in the tropics.

Messages in a bottle, sea shells, and sand bottles can be used as centerpieces. Instead of formal chairs, beach chairs can be provided for guests to recline. Open bar areas can be decorated to look like a tiki bar. Since the theme is nautical, it only makes sense to serve seafood such as shrimp, flounder, oysters, etc.

In addition, less obvious details should be considered when planning an ocean theme wedding. For example, when is the best time of day to hold the ceremony? Most weddings are scheduled for midday. However during the summer months this time of day may not be ideal for beach weddings. The couple may choose to schedule the wedding once the sun begins to set.

Other details include knowing when high tide will occur. What is the noise level at this particular beach? Does the beach have a large amount of sea gulls? Most importantly couples should also secure a secondary location. The weather is unpredictable. The last thing a soon-to-be married couple wants to worry about is a storm that forces them to postpone nuptials.
