Tips for Wedding Decorations On A Tight Budget

Wedding decorations don’t have to eat a hole in your wedding budget. By planning ahead and using some creative thinking, you can have an elegant wedding that stays within your budget. The following tips will help you get started.

Do It Yourself

A significant cost of floral arrangements, pre-made cake toppers, and other wedding decor comes from the labor spent to make those items. You can cut costs by either doing it yourself, hopefully, with the help of friends and family. Florists buy their flowers at a discount rate from a wholesaler. Check with friends and family to see if they would have access to flower wholesales. If not, shop around and compare prices of fresh and silk flowers.

Sometimes silk flowers will be cheaper, and you will have the added bonus of being able to make up the arrangements months ahead of time. Cake toppers are another decoration item that can be created for a cheaper price. Fresh or silk flowers make a lovely arrangement on a cake.

However, if you want the traditional bells or doves, buy these items at a dollar store or through a discount catalog and create your own personalized cake top.

Decor That Works Overtime

Save cost by using decorations more than once during your wedding ceremony - that way you can justify the extra expense. For instance, use candelabras from your wedding ceremony to provide a backdrop for your cake table. Or use small photo frames as place card settings that can go home with guest as a wedding favor.

You can even use table centerpiece displays as thank-you gifts for those who helped you with the ceremony. Remember to choose a wedding theme that will carry though your ceremony and reception, so your decorations can be consistent between events.

Shop Cheap

If it has the word wedding on it, you know the item will be twice as expensive. When you decide to look for wedding decorations, shop at non-wedding stores and catalogs. Party catalogs offer many inexpensive decorating items, such as, disposable tablecloths or party favors.

Dollar stores are also a treasure house when looking for unique and inexpensive party favor ideas. Also, monitor closeout stores and websites for great deals on overstocked or out of season items.

Plan Ahead

Most wedding couples have more than a year to plan their wedding ceremony. Use that time to your advantage and purchase your wedding decorations at season closeout sales. For example, if you are planning a December wedding, buy up winter decorations after Christmas at your local craft store.

If you are looking at a spring wedding, wait until the beginning of summer to buy up Easter ribbon. Also, choosing December 25th, February 14th, or other major holidays as your wedding day will increase the price you pay for flowers. The demand for flowers at these times will significantly raise the prices.

Remember to use time to your advantage by making a list and shopping around, and you will keep your wedding from going over budget.
