Butterfly Wedding Decoration
Butterfly Splendor at your Wedding
Butterflies are amazing. They blossom from a simple caterpillar into
a delicate winged creation. Butterfly wedding decorations are
romantic and are easy to incorporate into even the most modest
budget.
Invitation
A silk-screen butterfly design is a delightful backdrop for your
wedding invitation--research different types of butterflies to find
one indigenous to your region. For example, in Maryland, include a
picture of the black gold and orange Baltimore (Euphydryas phaeton)
butterfly. In California, the California Tortoise Shell (Nymphalis
calirnica) would be appropriate adorning your wedding cards.
After customizing your invitation, be sure to include the specially
selected butterfly wedding decorations on your place cards and go
ahead and order thank you notes with the same pattern to keep the
theme going even after you’ve returned from your honeymoon.
Flowers
Small artificial butterflies can be worked into your floral
arrangements. If your florist doesn’t have a supplier, perform an
online search and purchase the items independently. Attach the silk
butterflies to a thin wire and weave them into your flower
arrangements.
For an outdoor setting there are certain flowers that will attract
butterflies—providing a natural way to achieve butterfly wedding
decorations. The hummingbird clethra has a pleasant fragrance and
can be placed around an outdoor garden to welcome your fluttering
friends. In general, butterflies prefer flowers they are pink red or
purple.
The Setting
Butterflies will be most active during the day so an afternoon
wedding is suggested. For those with large wedding budgets, consider
holding your receptions surrounded by completely natural butterfly
wedding decorations.
Several cities have butterfly habitats within their Botanic
Gardens or Nature Museums. The Chicago Nature Museum has a room
dedicated to these gentle beasts and boasts a collection of more
than 50,000 specimens of Lepidoptera (butterflies and moths).
The
Butterfly Place in Massachusetts promises a unique wedding
surrounded by butterflies. The indoor living environment contains up
to 500 butterflies and as many as 50 different species. The venue
will hold up to 100 guests.
The Food
Since your planning a garden themed butterfly wedding, keep the fare
simple and elegant. Think about things you would serve at an English
tea…. salmon and cucumber sandwiches, fresh fruit and wonderful
champagne.
Butterfly petit fours and a tiered wedding cake with butterfly
wedding decorations will look gorgeous set up on a table at your
receptions.
A Release
Couples with more modest means can look into releasing butterflies
at the culmination of the ceremony. Please note the climate and
habitat of the particular butterflies you opt to release. Nothing is
more tragic than seeing hundreds of gorgeous butterflies released
into the wild come plummeting to the ground because the temperature
is harsh for their systems (yes, I’ve seen it happen, it is not a
pretty sight). Temperatures need to be above 60 degrees to
accommodate the needs of a butterfly. Prices start around $65 per
dozen butterflies and can quickly escalate.
If you don’t live in the perfect climate consider a simulated
butterfly release. Create confetti butterflies with colored paper
and scatter these look-alikes at the bride and groom!
