Celebrate With A Medieval Theme Wedding

During the medieval times, when King Arthur reigned, courtly love was celebrated. Troubadours sang love songs, knights in shining armors fought to win the heart of a princess, and marriages were a true spectacular celebration.

Are you a damsel on the way to becoming a dame? Have you found your knight who has swept you off your feet? Then choose to celebrate your wedding in a medieval themed wedding at King Arthur’s round table, and have a day you and your guests will never forget.

Medieval themed wedding costumes are an important part of the decoration. There are places that provide authentic medieval costumes for everyone in the wedding party. The bride can dress up as the lady of the manor, the Groom as the King, the bridesmaids as the ladies in waiting, and the ushers as knights.

The women should wear their hair long and loose with a head piece, and their dresses should be made of silk with an off the shoulder design. The men should have chain mail tunics with the coat of arm decoration seen in the reception site. For a portion of the ceremony the bride and groom should wear long robes.

The ideal setting for a medieval theme wedding is a renaissance festival. Every state has a festival where they reenact this period of time. For a fee, some will provide everything you need to have a romantic renaissance wedding. Entrance fees for the renaissance festival, actors to dress as some major figures during life in the medieval times as well as additional costume and entertainment for the guests are provided.

Or, you can plan on having your own festival. Hang images of armors with a medieval crest design. While a real one found on line through EBay or borrowed from a collector might bring an authentic touch to the decoration, a picture of one as long as it’s bright would do the trick.

Pick a venue that has both an indoor place for the wedding. Decorate the inside with scenes you would find in a medieval court. Have a faux fireplace in the middle to represent a hearth. Set up a large table where the newly weds can reign over their court. Set up long tables inside where the guest will be served medieval feast from people dressed as medieval serfs.

Food is a very important part of a medieval theme wedding celebration and an important part of the decor. Invite the guest to eat with their hands as was customary during that time. To make this easier, serve different kinds meat and vegetables as kebabs. Turkey, venison, fish, and lamb are just a few to choose from. Don’t forget to serve Pretzels, also known as love knots, to your guests. Set your long tables with large goblets. In it, serve spicy wine, apple cider, hot chocolate, or beer.

A medieval theme wedding would not be complete without proper entertainment. If you are not holding our wedding at a renaissance fair, where the entertainment will be provided, hire actors to play the parts of the villagers to loiter about and provide real live decoration to the festivities.

Have a reading of a Shakespearean play, like Romeo and Juliet or hire people to stage a duel, or a jousting match. Have someone dressed in costume to recite love poetry or to sing a song while playing a harp. There are medieval dances of rounds that you can invite the guest to be involved with.

As a send off at the close of celebrating your medieval theme wedding, ask the guests to hold up their goblets of cider and wine and cry out “Hip! Hip! Huzzah!”
