Simple Ways to Make Wedding Decoration Items
Just because you are doing a wedding on a budget doesn’t mean
that your decorations have to look cheap. There are many ways
for the creative individual to throw an elegant reception and
make wedding decorations by hand. There are several basic
decorations that you can make at home. All you need are some
easily found items at your local craft store to make wedding
decorations.
Favor boxes are traditional for any wedding. They are the little
goodie boxes that everyone looks forward to. You can make
wedding decorations like these very easily. First remember that
they don’t have to be boxes, they can also be made from fabric
circles or silk bags.
Elegant looking silk bags can be decorated with silk rosettes
and fastened by a several small stitches made with a needle or
glue them on with a hot glue gun. The same can be done with the
fabric circles. Simply tie them with a grosgrain ribbon and use
a hot glue gun to attach silk flowers.
One more simple idea for the favor boxes is to find the small
crocheted boxes and fill them with candy then tie them shut with
silk ribbon. These boxes can make a country or antebellum
table-setting look very elegant.
You can make wedding decorations for your wedding party,
especially for the little flower girl. A basket for her takes
very little time to make and can be as elegant as you wish. One
idea for the basket is to cover it with layered silk rose petals
in any color you wish.
Start at the top edge of the outside of the basket and use a
glue gun to fasten them to the basket. Work your way down the
basket covering the entire outer basket with the petals. Finish
the last row by gluing the bottom edges to the bottom of the
basket. Finish the look by tying two matching ribbon bows to the
handle where they meet the basket.
Another way to make wedding decorations for your party is to
make candle decorations for your reception tables. These can be
simple and elegant to make. For each centerpiece you will need
two tapers and one large round candle.
The large round candle
should be the same height as the tapers. To do this either buy a
tall round candle or use a decorative pedestal candleholder to
achieve it. Decorate the candles by tying ribbon to the base of
the candles in matching colors of your wedding. Be careful not
to tie anything near the top or the middle of the candle as it
may catch fire during your reception.
Decorative seat covers at your reception will also make a big
impact. This doesn’t mean you have to learn to sew covers or
invest a lot of money on material to make them. One simple and
elegant way to make wedding decorations like these is to use
three yards of tulle, a large silk rose and a safety pin. The
process is simple and can be done fairly quickly if you have a
few helpers.
First tie the tulle around the chair back and tie a knot in the
back. Fasten this knot, making sure you have gone through both
layers of tulle with the safety pin. Pull the edge of the tulle
from the front of the chair over the top of the chair and tuck
in behind the knot. Tuck in the silk flower behind the knot and
have the petals cover the knot. Make sure that the stem of the
silk flower points downward so that it doesn’t poke your guest
in the back. You can shorten the length of the silk flower stem
with wire cutters.
As you can see, you can make wedding decorations yourself and
save time and money while having fun while doing them.
