Some simple ideas for making homemade wedding reception
decorations include making seat decorations, candle
centerpieces, favor boxes and votive favor sprays. You can use
your imagination to make these easy decorations as simple or as
elaborate as you wish. Enlist your family and bridesmaids to
help make these decorations on a weekend and make a party out of
it!
Seat decorations can be as simple as draping tulle around your
chair and securing with a wide grosgrain ribbon bow. Simply
drape about three yards of tulle around the chair and fasten in
the back with a knot. Make your bows at the same time so that
they are of uniform size.
The best type of ribbon for this project is ribbon with wire in
it so you can shape the bows. Attach a large safety pin to the
back of the bows and then secure the knot on the back of the
chair with the bow. These homemade wedding reception decorations
will make a big impact at your reception.
Taking large pillar candles and placing them on glass or acrylic
pedestals can make simple candle centerpieces. Encircle the
bottom of your candles with a ribbon and attach rosettes with a
glue gun to the ribbon. Be careful not to place anything
flammable from the middle to the top area of the candle to avoid
a fire. These make very simple and elegant homemade wedding
reception decorations for your tables.
Favor boxes are another easy homemade wedding decorations
project. These can be very simple to make. You can purchase
pre-made white boxes at your local craft store. Fill your boxes
with small gifts or candy. Secure the boxes with ribbon that
matches your wedding colors. You can either make beautiful bows
on top of the boxes with the ribbon or you can add small silk
flowers and attach them with a glue gun for added pizzazz.
An innovative homemade wedding reception decoration is the
votive sprays for your reception table. Candles are very popular
reception favors. They can either be scented or unscented,
colored or white. Be sure when choosing scented candles that
they aren’t too overpowering for your guests.
To make the favors simply place a votive candle holder with
candle in it in the center of two tulle circles. Gather the
tulle up around the candle and secure with a silk ribbon and tie
a bow.
Separate and fan out the tulle at the top of the favor. Decorate
with silk flowers and pearl sprays tucked into the center of the
hole in the tulle and ribbon. These can also be secured with a
dab of glue from your hot glue gun.
