You can almost taste the crispness in the air and smell the
aroma of hot apple cider. The fall is a wondrously rich time of
year bringing to mind the array of bright yellows, deep crimsons
and oranges decorating the trees and signaling a shift from
summer to winter. A fall theme wedding can incorporate what you
and your fiance love most about fall, and what better way to
introduce your theme than with fall theme wedding invitations?
Crafty
If you are the crafty type there are numerous ways to make a
fall theme wedding invitation. This may only be advisable if you
are sending out a manageable number of invitations. One unique
method is to make rubbings from fall leaves; you will need to
use paper that is thin enough for the leaf to make a good
rubbing.
Invite over your wedding party and have fun using different
types of leaves if you wish. You could also simply affix the
leaves to your chosen stationary or use die cut leaves, apples,
pumpkins or other fall symbols. Print the details off on the
opposite side or on different paper that you glue to the other
side providing a three dimensional look.
Using Color & Shapes
The rich browns, greens, reds, yellows and oranges of fall allow
for a unique opportunity to use lots of color in your
invitation. Consider using one of these rich colors as the paper
color for your invitation. Make sure the ink color provides
contrast.
You could also use a symbol in a rich color with the same color
of ink in the lettering instead of using colored paper. Texture
also works well for fall theme wedding invitations, and many
pulpy papers have fall flowers or leaves embedded in them.
Shapes are also a wonderful and unique way to introduce your
fall theme wedding using your invitation. If you are using a
certain shape at your wedding, now is a great time to introduce
it. These are especially wonderful for a casual wedding, but
they can be used for a more formal occasion if you use a higher
quality paper. An adorable pumpkin invitation could be used or
apple if the wedding is going to be held near an orchard or
farm.
Other options
Use a thick stationary and an embossed symbol. Off whites and
creams will work well for a fall theme wedding invitation. Try
using gold leaf to add color. A simple pattern in a single line
across the front can also be elegant and is a good way to use
your wedding colors. Try insets of brocade or tartan fabric. You
could even send mulling spices, pumpkin seeds or fall-scented
sachets along with the invitations.
Make choosing or making your fall theme wedding invitations fun.
Challenge your friends to come up with ideas and prototypes. If
you have two favorite types then use one for a ‘save-the-day’
card and one for the invitation. Use something that not only
introduces your theme but also is something special for you and
your fiance.
