an atmosphere that celebrates life and the newness of beginning

your wedding with greenery can seem an overwhelming task, so try
the following three steps to help you simplify your process.
Step 1: Choose your greens
Whether you choose to use fresh or silk greenery, head to your
local hobby or floral supply shop and peruse the greens. The
wide variety will give you an idea of what kinds appeal to you.
However, do not limit yourself and bring a friend or your mother
for added perspective. If you have chosen your flowers, grab a
similar stem and hold it next to each bin to see what it looks
like together.
If you haven’t chosen flowers, you could always consider
flowering greenery like dogwood. Using Ivy to decorate a wedding
with greenery is quite popular; however, also consider the
exotic look of palm leaves or a winter favorite like evergreen
which also provides a lovely scent.
Step 2: Decide on where to use the greenery
Do you want to use it as an accent or a main feature? How to
decorate with greenery for your wedding is up to you. As an
accent, you can feature the leaves in the bouquets, as pew
garlands, swags above doors and scattered on tables.
For more visibility use your greenery of choice in centerpieces
and wrapped around Styrofoam balls to make interesting
topiaries. Place sprigs on the backs of the chairs at the
reception and use rings of it to accent candles.
Edge your feature tables such as the cake table in vines or
layered sprigs. Use wreaths to decorate doors. Do not forget to
add a few leaves or a frond to the backs of corsages and
boutonnières.
Step 3: Accent the greenery
Use a little bit of color and texture to accent your decorative
wedding greenery. Ribbons in your wedding colors can be used to
hang wreaths or attach garlands and sprigs to the back of
chairs. Use a ribbon with a velvet or heavier texture for winter
and a satin or cotton-like ribbon for spring.
Do not be afraid to use patterned ribbon because the simplicity
of the green will neutralize the pattern making it look less
busy. Christmas lights can be used to great advantage with
greenery especially in an evening wedding. The lights will add a
soft glow while the greenery appears fresh. White lights work
especially well. Make sure you test and read the directions to
prevent a fire hazard.
Of course, well-placed flowers look especially elegant against a
back drop of green. Choose flowers that compliment your
greenery. A few blooms will go a long way to add interest saving
you both time and money.
Have fun while you decorate, and consider researching the
meaning of certain types of greenery to make your choice even
more meaningful. The well-used ivy might just be quite popular
because it traditionally symbolizes fidelity and wedded love.
