Dress up that Wedding Gift Table!

It’s the dirty little secret anxiety of every wedding guest—finding the right moment to give the happy couple their present.

While everyone loves spending time with the bride and groom, guests understand that you’re busy hosting and sometimes struggle to find an opportunity to give the bride and/or groom their present. This is an especially common dilemma at large weddings.

The couple is occupied with the taking of photos, making sure everyone is having a good time and of course busy enjoying each others company. Nobody wants to give to interrupt a critical moment in the reception or break up a conversation with a family member. A good rule of thumb is anytime after the actual meal is served and before the wedding cake is cut.

A major reason for guests’ unnecessary fret is from not being able to distinguish the wedding gift table from the others at the party. One way to make sure your guests can deposit their present at their leisure is to dress up that gift table!!

Here are a few simple ways to make the wedding gift table stand out from the rest of the party.

Use a different color table linen. Some couple opt for elaborately monogrammed runners. Use a color that will compliment your overall scheme but is noticeably different, perhaps two shades darker or a completely different color altogether.

Create a unique centerpiece. Make sure whatever goes on this table looks different then the tables that guests are seated at. There shouldn’t be any confusion, since guests won’t find chairs at the gift table, but make the focal point extra creative to avoid any potentially embarrassing moments. This table may be used for fun wedding decorations.

Creating a fake version of the wedding cake is a popular theme for the gift table.  White towels twisted round and knotted, stack nicely into a faux wedding cake, top it with your favorite stuffed animal and ribbons. Wedding novelty shops also sell queen size wedding cake candles that make a big show on the gift table.

Flowers are a big part of weddings, but since this table is suppose to be a little different, using an arrangement of flowers is not recommended. A garland of ivy or fresh flowers going around is a nice subtle touch.

Another great idea is making a bride and groom centerpiece. White and Black balloons make excellent bride and groom balloon people and they are large enough to see from a distance. Decorate bride with tulle and fake flowers; groom with paper top hat and bow tie.

Teddy bears make a cute couple as well. Use characters that reflect your personality—if you’re a sports fan dress the miniature couple in your favorite colors. Champagne bottles also dress up nicely in satin, lace and a tux; pre-made outfits are available in wedding shops, but don’t be afraid to do it yourself with a needle, thread and hot glue gun.

In terms of monetary presents, make sure you have a depository available for guests.  You don’t want to get stuck carrying a stack of envelopes all night or worse yet loose one!

Some couples opt to carry a “money bag” for wedding cards. Satin pouches with ribbon ties. This also can be used as a gift table decoration, if you so chose. The birdcage makes a very regal display to deposit envelopes into as well and like the money bag can be purchased at most bridal suppliers.

Creating your own gift containers can be a lot of fun. Make your own wedding mailbox from a round hatbox. Use hot glue gun to adhere satin material and pearl bead work. Cut slot in top and decorate with tulle—A wedding cake shaped mailbox!

These small touches will make your wedding gift table decorations stand out and go a long way to making you and your guest comfortable.
