Enjoy Versatile Options With Balloon Wedding Decorations

Balloons were fun when we were kids—Now this blast from the past is a class act in decorating for your wedding.

Since balloons come in a variety of shapes, colors and textures, they are a versatile wedding decoration that sure to have guests talking.

Weigh your options

The most commonly used helium balloons are made of plastic or latex, making them twistable. Matte balloons are the standard plastic balloons, that when expanded displays bursts of unadulterated color.

For those brides looking for something a little more dressed up, they may want to consider a pearlized balloon. Pearlized plastic balloons have a light coating, which make the colors appear to sparkle in certain lighting.

Another eye-catching option is mylar —note that foil balloons are not bendable, since they are made from polyester and not plastic. However, the shiny foil material adds a bit of glam to any occasion and everyone deserves to feel like a star on their wedding day!!

Plastic and mylar balloons come in many prints and wedding specific graphics. While these are nice additions to the bridal shower, they are not suggested in use for wedding decorating, unless part of any overall theme.

If you’re looking for something a bit more unique, look into different shapes; hearts and stars create a tastefully balanced elegant and fun wedding balloon decor.

A Few Ideas

As a bride, it’s often hard to remember that simple items can go a long way with a little imagination.

Balloons are one of the simplest wedding decorations that can be incorporated into many elegant and complex pieces.

The wedding arch is a grand display made of balloons and placed outdoors during the ceremony, reception or inside any large room that can accommodate. White matte and pearlized balloons are commonly used for the wedding arch, but don’t be afraid to experiment with a little color.

Pastel may add that additional softness to a spring wedding. Also, the wedding arch can be made with mylar balloons, creating a dazzling display. For the undecided, using predominately matte balloons with a few mylar placed throughout may give you the balance you’re looking for.

In addition to making a big entrance with an arch, balloons also make fabulous centerpieces. Some of you are probably skeptical how a simple balloon can turn into a wedding centerpiece without bordering on tacky. Plastic and latex balloons can be twisted into amazing shapes.

Along with tulle, lace and ribbon, balloon wedding decor can make beautiful topiaries. Small mylar balloons on sticks can be poked through styrofoam wreath to create a ring around a pillar candle coaster. There are professional stylists that are skilled in this craft. If your looking for an affordable alternative to flowers, this may be worth researching.

A final tip that’s my personal favorite balloon wedding decoration—a balloon release! This can be a few different was. Outdoor weddings sometimes like to incorporate a release of balloons as part of the ceremony.

However, please be aware that mylar balloons are especially hazardous to the environment and run the risk of tangling on near by power lines. Check with the town or county regarding any possible restrictions.

Alternatively, many couples opt to do the balloon release as part of the reception; either midway into the night or at the very end of the night. Dancing through white balloons strings to the final song of the evening is very romantic.

Indoor wedding balloon releases also can be done as a drop, where the balloons are not or partially filled with helium and released from the ceiling at an appointment time—no string required. Putting special notes or tokens inside the balloons can also make for fun surprises. Either way, beautiful balloon wedding decorations are a sure way to end the evening on a high note.
