Create Your Own Silk Flower Wedding Bouquet
Making sure that your flowers last forever as
a reminder of that special day takes only a few moments and can
save you a lot of money. Silk flowers that come in all sizes,
styles, and colors can be easily arranged to create a stunning
bouquet, not only for the bride, but the bridesmaids and groomsmen
too.
Today’s arts and crafts stores are filled
with everything you will need to create a unique look. Many carry
the traditional bouquet holder as well as lace frames to encircle
the actual holder. The other options are to lay your bouquet in
your arms like a baby or carry a nosegay in your hands.
Selecting Your Flowers
Let’s start now with the selection of your
flowers. Roses are an obvious choice but can be overdone if
you’re not careful. Don’t forget that there are a lot of other
options. For example, different kinds of lilies, chrysanthemums,
carnations, and peonies can make for a delightful display.
Also,
don’t forget the greenery. Several brides go for all flowers and
forget that ferns, eucalyptus, and others can assist in the
showmanship of the flowers. You can chose white for yourself and
your groom, and select colors that match your scheme for your
bridesmaids or mix and match as you see fit.
Flowers for the Men
After selecting your flowers and your bouquet
holder, it’s time for the real work to begin. The men’s flowers
can be done easily as most of them will only have one bloom and
some greenery. Most flowers come with some greenery attached and
the stems can be trimmed to about 1 ½ to 2 inches.
After placing
the leaves behind the flower, use green florist tape to hold it
together. Start just below the lowest leaf and wrap the tape
uniformly to the bottom and back up again. Don’t worry if the
leaves shift a little, these being silks they can be moved again
without disturbing the effect. An inexpensive purchase of stick
pins will hold them onto the suits of your men.
Making the Bouquet
Onto the bouquets, using wire cutters, trim
the stems of the flowers to about one inch long. Starting in the
middle and working to the outside, arrange the flowers as you see
fit.
Just bear in mind that the foam holding these in place will
not tolerate a lot of pulling out and pushing back in. You might
consider arranging them in your hand first or even a vase before
cutting the stems to pull together the look you are trying to
achieve. Repeat the pattern as close as possible for all of the
bouquets.
Silk flowers can create a lasting, floral arrangement as a
reminder of your special day. And by making your own flowers, you
can save yourself money to be used on other important items, like
your dress, the location or just bank it for the honeymoon.
