Your initial feeling:
When you close your eyes and picture yourself getting married,
what type of flowers are you holding? Is it a hand held bouquet or
a cascade? You may want to draw a quick sketch of what you are
picturing. You want to listen to your inner voice so that a
florist who needs to get rid of a certain type of flower will not
sway you. Some brides have a favorite flower and already know
which type of flower they are going to use. Have you already got

Do some brainstorming:
Your next step is to get out a piece of paper and do some
brainstorming. What are your favorite flowers? What flowers were
at the house you lived in while growing up? Is there a special

know would complement the colors and theme of your wedding. If

Go to the nursery:
Take your list and make a quick trip to the nursery. This is an
important step because there are a seemingly endless variety of
flowers. Here you can smell all the flowers and see some that you
never knew existed. Think about whether you prefer a flower that
has a scent or not. Write down the names of the flowers and plants
that you are drawn to.
Do some research:
After you get back from the nursery, you should have a pretty good
idea of what types of flowers you would like to use. Do a quick
search on the Internet to look into the seasonal availability of
the flowers you are selecting. If your favorite is not readily
available in the dead of winter for your Christmas wedding, it may
be appropriate to move down the list to the next favorite.
Finally, visit the florist:
Take your list to the florist and see if he or she has pictures
that can illustrate what you describe. Sometimes, just looking
through the photos will prompt a trigger and you will see a design
that will be ‘the one’. You’ll know it when you see it. The
florist can also help you tailor your favorite flowers with others
that traditionally complement it.
Doing a bit of homework before visiting your florist will greatly
help you when you go to choose the flower decoration for your
wedding. This will ensure the flowers you choose will be not only
memorable, but will mean something special as well.
