“Just Married” – The Decorated Wedding Car Says It All
It’s the tradition that lets everyone in town know you were just
married: the decorated wedding car. Everyone is familiar with the sight
– and sound – of the newly married couple driving away in a car covered
with balloons and crepe paper streamers with tin cans dragging in the
back. The decorated wedding car is a practice that a few friends and
family members traditionally took care of without the bride and groom’s
awareness.

Like other traditions that have been “modernized,” such as rice throwing
replaced by the more environmentally sound birdseed throwing or bubble
blowing, wedding car decorations have also changed with the times. While
balloons and streamers and tin cans still make perfect wedding car
decorations, new options are also available.
Static Window and Body Decals
One of the most popular wedding car decorations is the rear window
decal. Imagine a giant “Just Married” that looks as if it’s painted in
the rear window. The decal attaches using static cling, so it can be
peeled off easily. You can even have the rear window decal personalized
with the name of the bride and groom and the wedding date. It makes a
perfect keepsake after the wedding day is over.
The same type of static-cling decal is available for the body of the
decorated wedding car. Cover the car with “Just Married” decals. It
looks like paint but it peels off without causing any damage to the car.
Suction-cup window signs that display “Just Married” or “Newlyweds on
Board” are also popular. Or write your own wedding car message using
car-safe window markers. You can also add a “Just Married” license plate
cover to complete the wedding car decoration.
Posters
One of the easiest ways to decorate the wedding car is to create a
colorful “Just Married” poster and attach it to the trunk. The poster
can be decorated to match the wedding theme or the personal style of the
bride and groom. The poster can be detached from the car and placed in
the reception hall or honeymoon suite after the wedding.
Flower Streamers and Garlands
Flower streamers and garlands can also be tied to the trunk, so they can
dangle behind the decorated wedding car as it drives away. The flowers
can be selected to fit in with the wedding theme. For a Hawaiian-style
wedding, try palm fronds along with tropical flowers. For a Christmas
wedding, try pine garlands.
Flowers and garland can also be wrapped around the edges of the wedding
car windows. However, be careful that the decorations don’t limit
driving visibility in any way. That goes for all wedding car
decorations. While it’s wonderful to be creative with wedding car
decorations, remember that safety is most important. And take care that
the wedding car decorations don’t harm the car either.
Don't Forget the Relatives
Wedding car decorations aren’t limited to the bride and groom’s car.
Create personalized messages on the car windows of the bride and groom’s
parents and everyone in the wedding party, using poster board or special
car window markers.
Rent Something Fancy
Decorations aren’t the only consideration when it comes to wedding cars.
You might also want to rent a special car, such as a vintage car or
sports car that fits in with your wedding theme.
