Stick to your wedding budget
It doesn’t matter how beautiful that $1000 wedding dress is,
if you put in your wedding budget that you have $750 to spend on
your wedding dress, then that’s it! An extra $250 on a wedding
dress will lead to more expensive shoes, a more expensive veil,
etc, etc. You would be hard pressed to find a bride that wasn’t
beautiful, even if she didn’t spend the $250 extra on a dress.
After all, you will only wear the dress once, so there is no reason
to spend more than you should.
Plan your reception around everything else
The reception is the biggest part of your wedding budget so plan
accordingly. You may want to plan the wedding ceremony in
the same location as the wedding reception. This way you won’t
have to buy more decorations than necessary. Your reception
will be the bulk of your expense, especially when you are planning
a wedding on a budget. Keep in mind that you might want to
forgo the sit down dinner for a more informal buffet style in order
to stay within budget.
Be realistic about your wedding budget
Nothing is worse than going to your own wedding hoping you will
make enough money off your friends and family to finish paying for
it. No matter how much money you spend on your wedding, it
will be the most magical and memorable day of your life. Don’t
depend on the monetary gifts you might receive to pay for the “extras”
you splurged on for your wedding. You devise a wedding budget
for a reason. Don’t go into debt over your wedding.
Be prepared
You might look at your budget and think the total amount looks
doable. Just remember that about half of the bills are due
right before or immediately after the wedding. Be sure to
have enough cash on hand to pay for everything when you need to.
You may even consider opening a special wedding savings account.
This way you will have your wedding money saved up in one convenient
location.
Balance the wedding budget
If there is one area where you are dying to splurge on your wedding
budget, find another area to take away from. It may be that
you really want to have your reception in a certain place that is
a little out of your budget. Whatever you overspend on one
thing, take from another area such as the food. After all,
if you are having the wedding in the place of your dreams, it won’t
much matter if you have pasta instead of chicken.
