How To Make Your Special Day in Paradise With A Tropical Wedding Theme
Does the idea of warm sand under your feet and a cool sea breeze
running through your hair sound like paradise to you? Then a
tropical wedding theme may be right for you!
Creating a tropical wedding theme for your special day is perfect
for any couple who enjoys the beach, warm weather and the casual
attitude of the tropics. And, because the tropics have such
naturally beautiful surroundings, making a tropical theme wedding
will surely be a day that you will never forget.

The Birds and The Bees
There is no question that the tropics are filled with many
different, spectacular animals, plants and insects. You can bring
some of this to your tropical themed wedding by decorating with
items that naturally occur in the tropics.
For example, you may try draping the top of your reception area
with palm tree branches, to give the effect of being on an island,
and sprinkle the branches with artificial birds, such as parrots.
Similarly, animal centerpieces, such as dolphins, monkeys and/or
tropical fish are very reminiscent of the tropics and make
wonderful visual displays for your dinner tables.
Top your wedding cake with a rain forest scene and decorate the
outside of the cake with bright, vibrant colors to get the full
effect.
Fun in the Sun
For those with a larger budget (and lots of space), it might be
fun to block off an area and bring in real sand. Pitch a
volleyball net and allow your guests to play beach volleyball,
Frisbee or simply enjoy sticking their toes in the sand and
relaxing.
Furthermore, since tropical wedding themes are usually meant to be
more casual, scatter beach and lounge chairs throughout the
reception area and bring beach towels as decorations (or for
people who want to sit on the floor or in the sandy area!).
Tropical Delights
Tropical wedding themes are usually best done during the day in a
warm, sunny place. To this end, the food that you serve at your
wedding should be cool, refreshing and light.
Begin with fresh fruit and vegetable appetizers. Serve your guests
mai tais, pina coladas or mojitos to start. For the main course,
try cooking up a variety of fresh fish that tropical regions
usually feast on. Chilean sea bass, ahi tuna or mahi mahi are all
great choices.
Top each fish with a fresh fruit salsa, such as papaya or mango to
make it even more tropical. For dessert (before the wedding cake),
serve tropical sorbet – a cool, refreshing, fruity treat that's
also low in calories and fat!
Dressing For The Tropics
The easiest thing to plan for a tropical wedding theme is your
attire. By nature, the tropics tend to be very warm and humid.
People who live or travel in tropical areas usually wear light
clothes that breathe easily. You can do the same for your tropical
themed wedding!
The bride can wear a light, flowing cotton dress in white for the
more traditional bride, or perhaps with a floral design. The groom
can wear a light linen suit, which will look dressy with a casual
edge. Both outfits will ensure that the bride and groom feel cool
and comfortable on the wedding day.
Most tropical wedding themes insist that guests wear casual
attire. After all, you wouldn't wear a cocktail dress on a
tropical island! Ask guests to wear something cool and casual.
This will put guests at ease and make them really feel as though
they are really in the tropics!
A tropical wedding theme can be a great way to have a relaxed,
laid back celebration when you get married. If you enjoy spending
time in the sun and digging your feet into warm sand, then think
about planning a tropical theme wedding!
