There are endless decorating ideas for an ocean theme wedding. The
hardest part is nailing down which aspect of the ocean you want
represented at your wedding. The following puts forth a few
creative ideas that will get you thinking about how to plan the
perfect ocean theme wedding.
Twenty Thousand Leagues Under The Sea
If you enjoy diving or snorkeling, then there are many great
decorating ideas for your ocean theme wedding.
You can begin by dressing the reception area with large, brightly
colored coral imitation structures, in oranges, reds, blues and
pinks. Accent the coral with long blades of bright green sea grass
for more color.
Color the backdrop of your wedding in different shades of blue, to
create the image that your guests are truly underwater. Or,
depending on the location for your wedding reception, rent a
restaurant filled with large salt water tanks and tropical fish.
If you don't have the opportunity to rent a space where the fish
already exist, create your own! Design large tropical fish
centerpieces for each table. Or, bring in small aquariums to put
in the center of each table and fill each with small goldfish
(live salt water fish require too much maintenance to as
centerpieces, but people will still get the theme with goldfish!).
Sailing The Day Away
Not all ocean-related activities involve being beneath the sea. If
you're an avid sailor, or enjoy wind surfing or water skiing, you
can add some items that bring these hobbies out for your ocean
themed wedding.
For example, use a nautical theme at each table. Put tiny anchors
and use red, blue and white patterns on napkins, plates and on the
tablecloths. For those with a larger budget, you can rent
windsurfing boards and place them in corners of the reception area
to get the full ocean theme effect.
What To Eat At Your Ocean Theme Wedding
At an ocean theme wedding, obviously, it's best to serve fresh
fish. Begin the reception with some type of sushi or tar tar
appetizer. Throw in some friend calamari for the guest who won't
eat raw fish and you're sure to have a crowd pleasing cocktail
hour.
For the main course, you can serve some type of elegant fresh
fish, such as Chilean sea bass or Mahi Mahi. For guests who don't
enjoy fish (there will be some), serve a vegetarian or chicken
dish. Light pastas, such as angel hair or orzo, go well with fish
dishes and will also suit the younger guests, who may not like
fish either.
Your wedding cake can take on some of the ocean theme by being
created with tiny, multicolored tropical fish spread throughout
the exterior of the cake. A truly talented wedding cake-maker can
probably create an entire replica of the Great Barrier Reef as the
wedding cake topper, but depending on your budget, small fish made
out of icing may be adequate!
Having an ocean theme wedding is the perfect way for you and your
significant other to share your love of the sea and ocean marine
life with the friends and family that you love. Whether you choose
to focus on the top of the sea, or 20,000 leagues beneath the sea,
with an ocean theme wedding, you're sure you treat your guests to
an ocean adventure they will never forget!
