What To Wear
It is up to the bride and groom to decide what they wear and what
the guests should put on for the Caribbean theme wedding. Ideally,
if you're sticking to a theme, it's best to encourage guests to
participate, in order to make them feel more comfortable and to
add to the uniqueness of your wedding day.
Caribbean theme weddings are usually more casual in nature than
traditional weddings. Since the Caribbean culture is based around
the ocean, the beach and tropical flowers, fruit and music, it's a
good idea to encourage guests to wear casual attire.
Having a Caribbean theme wedding also means that the bride and
groom do not need to necessarily wear traditional wedding attire
(white dress and tuxedo). The bride can wear a floral, flowing
dress and affix flowers in her hair. Similarly, the groom can wear
something light, such as a linen suit (without the tie).
How To Eat, Caribbean Style
The cuisine of the Caribbean primarily consists of fresh fish,
exotic fruit and very natural ingredients, found on the islands.
Start your reception off with icy fresh-fruit daiquiris and mai
tais. Any type of fruity drink that's refreshing and cool will fit
in nicely with your Caribbean theme.
For a starter, you can serve fresh pineapple and mango kebabs;
seared on a grill, these sweet fruits develop a caramelized
texture and the sugar is brought out of the fruit, making them
sweet and delicious. For the main course, guests can feast on Mahi
Mahi or Ahi Tuna, both grilled and topped with a tropical fruit
salsa, such as mango or papaya.
Your wedding cake, as with everything else, should follow the
Caribbean theme. Pick a light cake, such as a white or yellow and
select a tropical fruit filling, such as passion fruit or
pineapple. Top the cake with loads of fragrant, bright colored
flowers to make the cake look like it was taken right from the
Caribbean.
When To Plan A Caribbean Style Wedding
Depending on where you live, it's best to plan a Caribbean theme
wedding during a time when you know the weather will be warm and
sunny. This is not to say that it doesn't rain in the Caribbean,
but it sure is nicer when the sun is out! Your wedding will be
too!
For those who live in areas that have a cold winter, spring or
summer weddings are usually best for the Caribbean theme. Those
who live in warmer climates basically have their pick of months
out of the year, but if it's too hot in the summer, be aware that
guests may be uncomfortable.
