Have Fun with Wedding Reception Decorations
You don’t need to hire an expert to decorate the tables at your
wedding reception. All you need is a good dose of creativity and
originality to pull it all together. And let’s face it, it’s your
wedding reception and you want to enjoy every moment - even the
decorating part!
First of all, do an analysis of the layout of the room where
the reception is being held. How many tables will be required? What
about the size of each? Remember large
centerpieces
don’t need to be on every table. The head table takes center stage
while smaller tables require smaller centerpieces.

For most people when they think wedding reception table decoration,
the first thing that comes to mind is flowers. And of course flowers
are always a winner! Fresh cut flowers such as tulips, daffodils,
carnations, daisies, roses, or lilacs look beautiful and smell fantastic
in a dainty vase at the center of every table. Outstanding!
For a different decorative twist, consider scattering fragrant petals
(I recommend rose petals) on the tablecloths. Choose all the same
color or a variety of colors. It looks lovely and smells … well
try it and see for yourself!
Some couples have lots of flower arrangements at the wedding ceremony
and choose to go easy on flowers at the reception afterwards. A
friend of mine removed stems from the arrangements at the church
after the wedding ceremony was over and placed them in vases at
the reception. It worked out just fine.
As beautiful as they are, flowers are not the only route to take
for decorating tables at the reception.
Candles leave lasting
impressions as well, especially for evening receptions. Some candle
adornment suggestions include placing small floating candles in
stylish glass bowls and putting them in the middle of tables. They
make very elegant table toppers!
Scented candles are especially nice to use (consider scents such
as jasmine, gardenia, sandalwood, or vanilla). Add food coloring
to the water to give it some extra pizzazz or use bowls that are
tinted blue or pink.
A summer wedding,
no matter where the location, brings on thoughts (and yearnings)
of the beach. Bring that
warm feeling to the guests at your reception by arranging candles
of varying shapes and sizes on a piece of glass (plain or decorative)
and surround them with seashells and polished stone. I have attended
weddings where these have been used and I guarantee they look sensational!
Artificial flowers sometimes get a bad rap but they shouldn’t. Today’s
artificial flowers are much improved over the “fake looking” ones
of days gone by. In fact often people cannot tell them apart from
the real thing! The truth is revealed only after they get up close
to them and touch them.
Artificial “silk” flowers (sprayed with a light, airy cologne- if
you dare and also if none of your attending guests have allergies)
can be eye catching and a tremendous conversation piece for your
guests. Talk about designer wedding decor! And who wouldn’t want
to talk about such opulence in decorating?
The wedding reception decoration task does not have to be a difficult
and time-consuming chore. Use your vivid imagination to create table
centerpieces your guests will want to take home with them! Or even
better, replicate at their own wedding soirees!
