Head Table Wedding Decoration
Decorating the Wedding Head Table
Upon entering the reception hall where are everyone’s eyes
automatically drawn? The head table of course. After all it is the
focal point of the room as the newly married couple are the center
of attention.
With that in mind the wedding decorations that are chosen to
adorn the very prestigious head table are extremely important.
They must serve to enhance the appearance of all who sit there by
bringing lots of color and liveliness to the scene. It is a happy
day and color is a great way to bring the festivities into focus.
But what is the purpose of a
table centerpiece? It is simple
really. Its purpose is to create additional atmosphere for the
attending guests to relish where they are seated. It is welcoming,
warm and breathtaking to behold. Who doesn’t want to surround
themselves with something beautiful?
An idea a recently married friend of mine put forth for her
wedding was to use a simple platform to raise the centerpiece at
the head table, no matter what the centerpiece is. She said that
raising something to the guests’ eye level would get it noticed
and make a bigger splash than keeping it at table level. For that
matter this smart manipulation of the eye could be used at all
tables at the reception and not just the head table. But it would
certainly have a greater impact at the table everyone is
concentrating on.
A wedding head table decorating idea that is very popular, especially with couples
marrying in their early to mid twenties, is balloons. Balloons are
fun, they’re carefree, they’re inexpensive and provide extra color
to light up the room! A smart idea is to build a balloon arch
behind the head table.
A reception hall or room with a high ceiling is an especially
good spot for balloons. Traditional pastels colors such as pink,
blue, yellow and light purple look great or perhaps if you want to
jazz things up even more, check out the newer metallic and
pearlescent colors.
Of course if your wedding has a theme you will need to take
this into consideration as well. To add to the dramatic effect of
the balloons, consider ribbon streamers trailing down. Balloons
hanging above either side of the head table are stunning but make
sure they remain far away from the table so that they don’t
interfere with any of the activity that is going on!
Balloon arrangements at the head table can be made to be similar
in height to flower arrangements. Consider placing a large one in
the middle of the table and smaller ones at either end. Add
handmade bows and ribbons in different sizes, colors and
materials.
But remember not to obscure the view of your head table guests
as well. And no one wants to get his or her fork or knife close
enough to a balloon to burst it. Bang! Not exactly a sound most
want to hear at a wedding reception.
But what if the bride has her heart set on a flower arrangement
for the head table? Not a problem. There are lots of things you
can do. Arrange single flowers in elegant vases and spread them
evenly down the length of the table or have one large arrangement
(all one kind of flower, or a variety, complete with greenery and
baby’s breath) in the middle of the table. Scattering rose or
lilac petals in the middle of the table or to the corner of
everyone’s place setting is a very chic alternative.
Another idea that more and more people are catching on to is to
bring flowers from the wedding ceremony to use at the reception.
This way the couple and their guests get to enjoy the beauty of
the flowers at both locations and the flowers don’t go to waste.
Candles add romance and charm to every occasion and a wedding
reception is no different. White taper candles in an elegant
candelabra coordinate with any decor and always look stunning,
especially gracing the center of the head table. Or perhaps you
might want to go with candles of varying heights and sizes, either
in white or matched up with the wedding colors you have chosen.
However you decide to decorate your head table keep in mind the
theme of your wedding (if you have one) and the happiness and joy
you wish to convey to everyone present!
