Christmas Wedding Decoration
What My Friends Told Me About Christmas Wedding Decorations
December weddings can be unforgettable. The fact that most
people do not get married at the end of the year makes it the perfect
time to tie the knot! A December wedding presents a fantastic chance to
incorporate Christmas decorations in the wedding ceremony. My friends
shared some of their Christmas wedding decoration ideas with me.
My college roommate Joanna got married on the 20th of December.
She decided to decorate the church with poinsettias (all red) and red bows
(purchased at our local dollar store) hung from the side of every pew.
There was a beautiful yuletide candle arrangement of red and white
candles at the front of the church.
So what other kinds of decorations go with the Christmas wedding theme? Read on
to learn some excellent decorating suggestions and then deck the halls
before you say, “I do.”
Pinecones make great Christmas wedding decorating tools and are usually
plentiful during the latter part of the year. Go outside and collect a
whole bunch and then put them to good use. Design pinecone wreaths to
use as centerpieces as opposed to flowers (which when out of season are
even pricier).
While you’re at it, collect a supply of acorns as well and mix them in
with the pinecones. Decorate the pinecones (and acorns) by painiting
them gold or silver, or
red or green. It’s entirely up to you. Just remember to think
“Christmassy.” Or paint only a few and let the others remain their
natural color. Consider using ribbons of coordinating colors to jazz up
the wreaths even more.
Then for the finishing touch, arrange on tables at your reception and
place a large pillar candle in the center of each wreath, whatever color
you want. Perhaps if you don’t want to be too uniform, consider choosing
candles of two different colors and do one table with one color and the
next with the other, and so on. You get the idea.
Another interesting Christmas wedding decorating idea is to buy candles
of varying heights, place on decorated glass and surround them with
small Christmas wreaths (made or purchased) to beautify your reception
tables. Add some poinsettias to give the centerpieces the richest of
color.
A friend from Boston created some unique Christmas wedding decoration
centerpieces. She bought oversized martini glasses, added silver glitter
to the outside of each of them and then filled the glasses with an
assortment of cranberries, tiny candy canes, gold wrapped Hershey kisses
and small Christmas balls. She tied a burgundy ribbon around the stem of
each glass and placed a fancy Christmas doily underneath the glasses.
Making her own centerpieces from scratch allowed her to save money on
her centerpieces and show her innovative sense of style. Believe me the
effect was stunning!
The same friend purchased a manger scene and set it up to one side of
the buffet table and a village, complete with a church, houses, stores,
a library, a school, a doctor’s office and a train that made it’s way
through the village. It was the train that could.
The village paid homage to Christmas and the winter season by having a
Christmas tree with lights set up in the middle of it and cotton batting
was used to resemble snow. Of course there were miniature people decked
out in their Christmas finest. It was so divine and a definite
conversation piece for guests!
Another elegant Christmas wedding decoration idea is to circle some
garland and/or greenery around whatever you choose to use as your
centerpieces. And remember how bright and beautiful lights look on a
Christmas tree. Give your centerpieces lots of shine and sparkle! Add
some little white lights to the greenery. It’s an extra special gesture
that’s sure to please your wedding guests.
Happy holidays and a merry wedding to you both!
