Top Eleven Ways to Save on Wedding Flowers & Decorations
Planning for a wedding doesn’t have to run you into big bucks.
If thrifty is your middle name then there are a multitude of ways
to save money on wedding flowers and decorations but still allow
you to have a beautiful wedding. Let’s take a look at the top
eleven ways to save big!
1. Order flowers that are in season. If they are out of season you
won’t want to see the final total once it’s rung up!
2. Better yet, use artificial flowers (silk are recommended). They
cost less than fresh flowers and often times you can’t tell the
difference between the ones that are real and the ones that
aren’t. You don’t need to search far for the sale of artificial
flowers. Department stores such as Wal-Mart carry a large
selection of different kinds of flowers that come in all sorts of
vibrant colors. Shop around for the best deals.
3. If your bridesmaids absolutely cannot live without real flowers
(I know because mine couldn’t), consider a compromise- have them
each carry a single fragrant bloom. Flowers are alluring enough to
stand alone.
4. What about the bridal bouquet? Go real or artificial, whatever
your heart desires, but don’t go overboard when it comes to size!
Bigger is not always better in this case. The bride’s flowers
should cover her hands but not detract from her graceful
appearance. Think elegant style with a good dose of wedding
panache.
5. While we are on the topic of the bridal bouquet, have yours do
double duty. Use it as a decoration for the head table at the
wedding reception (or the gift table, buffet table, guest book
table- the possibilities are many). It doesn’t have to go to
waste. Just remember where you put it when it comes time to toss
the bouquet! The single ladies in attendance will never forgive
you if you don’t!
6. Make your own pew bows and/or ribbons for the wedding ceremony.
Or if you’re not the crafty sort, find someone who will make them
for you instead of buying them. But first check with the church-
some provide their own wedding decorations while others do not.
7. Don’t hire a decorating service to decorate the church hall or
wherever your reception is being held. Do it yourself! Drum up
volunteers from your family and friends. Make it a fun time and
play some music while you toil away. Then go out for munchies
and/or refreshments afterwards.
8. Use candles for centerpieces instead of flowers. There are so
many creative ways to work with candles. If you don’t know much
about candles, or how to accessorize them, find someone who does.
Experiment with what works best.
9. Another idea to use in place of flowers is balloons and/or
colorful streamers. They are inexpensive and really liven up a
room. It’s a celebration after all! Make it dazzling!
10. Use lots of greenery, tulle and baby’s breath for elegant
wedding decor. Don’t be afraid to use your imagination and don’t
worry- it’s unlikely that many of your guests will notice that
flowers are scarce.
11. Purchase decorating supplies, such as candles, white lights,
tissue paper bells, etc. after the Christmas holidays. Everything
goes on sale at the end of the year so take advantage of the
opportunity to stock up for the upcoming nuptials!
The more money you save on wedding flowers and decorations, the
more money you will have left over to spend on other things, like
the honeymoon for example. If that’s not an incentive to keep
costs low, I don’t know what is! Enjoy!
