Enjoy The
Warmth Of A Winter Wedding
Christmas
weddings have long been popular, and many married couples
celebrate their wedding anniversaries on Valentine’s Day. But
there is more to the winter season than those two special
occasions. A winter wedding, whatever the date, is a joyous event
that you and your guests will remember fondly.
Winter is a
season of peace, tranquility and deep reflection. Beneath blankets
of snow, life readies itself to emerge with abundance in spring.
Symbolically there is no better season for a wedding than winter.
The bride and groom calmly reflect on their love for each other
and join with their loved ones in anticipation of their new life
together.
Winter is a
time when focus turns inward, to family, hearth and home. Let your
winter wedding atmosphere reflect the strength and love of family,
as the bride’s and groom’s families join together in celebration.
Create a scrapbook for the bride’s family and one for the groom’s
family and place them where guests can look through them and
perhaps relive some fond memories. Decorate each table at your
winter wedding reception with a collage of family photos or
childhood pictures of the bride and groom.
A cozy
setting is a favorite for winter weddings – a family home, a
quaint cottage or an historic inn where guests can gather around
the fireplace. If you’re planning to host a large wedding and need
a bigger space, you can still create a homey atmosphere for your
winter wedding in the way you decorate the reception hall. And be
sure to find a venue with picture windows that overlook the
pristine winter landscape.
A winter
wedding is filled with warmth and brightness. Plan to make
plentiful use of candlelight. Decorate outdoor walkways with
luminaries. Light tapers around the wedding hall. Use votives as
centerpieces. Serve cider and spiced apples, and let the aroma of
cloves and cinnamon and other spices fill the air to warm your
spirits. Make or buy a gingerbread house for guests to enjoy.
Decorate with bright gold colors to enhance the light and warmth
of your winter wedding.
White may
seem to be the natural color for a winter wedding, but it’s not
the only color. Winter is the season for bold, bright colors that
reflect the icy brilliance of nature. Think of evergreen forests,
holly berries, log cabins, stone chalets and a deep blue sky
reflected off ice-covered ponds. Accent your white winter wedding
decor with bright red, forest green or royal blue.
A Christmas
wedding will be filled with lots of evergreen and dark red or
burgundy hues. Pine garlands, large red velvet bows, poinsettias
and strings of miniature lights transform the reception hall into
a Christmas wonderland. Baskets or plates brimming with festive
sugar cookies make a wonderful Christmas wedding centerpiece.
Scatter miniature candy canes on each table and decorate with
candy cane candles. A special Christmas ornament at each place
setting makes the perfect keepsake for your Christmas wedding.
If you want
to try something completely different, especially in cold
climates, consider a surf and sun theme for your winter wedding.
Create an indoor beach setting or a tropical paradise. Mix up
colorful cocktails served in carved-out pineapples or coconut
shells. Play surf tunes or reggae music. Perhaps invite your
wedding guests to wear Hawaiian shirts.
Whether
you go for a summer celebration in mid-winter or whether you
prefer something more in tune with the winter season, you and your
guests will always remember the warmth and brightness of a wedding
in winter.
