Celebrate A Romantic
Fall Wedding
June might have a reputation as the month for romance and
weddings, but there’s nothing more romantic than a fall wedding.
Autumn is a special season of nature in transition: warm days
and chilly nights, crisp and colorful leaves, animals scurrying in
the fields, and excitement lingering in the air. What better time
than fall to celebrate your wedding and mark your transition to
married life?
A fall wedding is the perfect occasion to gather around the fireside in a
quaint cottage or an historic old inn. A village with cobblestone
streets and eccentric storefronts can provide a cozy backdrop to
your autumn wedding celebration, and guests who arrive early can
enjoy the shopping and the atmosphere.
If you live
in a climate where autumn leaves are colorful, choose a location for
your wedding that showcases nature’s beauty. A fall wedding
outdoors, beneath trees boasting vibrant reds and oranges and
yellows, will be remembered fondly in fall seasons to come. When
the first leaf falls each year, your guests will think of the
wonderful celebration they experienced with you on your wedding
day.
Or choose a
wedding reception hall with panorama windows overlooking the
breathtaking fall landscape. If the hall is surrounded by a deck
and plenty of doors for guests to move in and out, to enjoy the
natural surroundings, so much the better.
Decor for
your autumn wedding should reflect nature’s bounty. Think of your
favorite fall traditions, whether it’s hayrides, bobbing for
apples, baking pies or celebrating the harvest. Recreate a
fun-filled harvest scene for your wedding guests, and if you want
to go all out and offer hayride, who is going to stop you? Of
course, you might want to advise that your guests dress
appropriately or bring a change of clothes to the reception!
It wouldn’t
be a autumn wedding without pumpkins everywhere. You can decorate
with them, bake and serve them, or let your wedding guests have
some fun decorating or carving them. Set a pumpkin on each table,
let your guests go to work, and hold a contest – perhaps a
homemade pumpkin pie for each of the winners. If you have separate
children’s tables, don’t forget to ensure the children are
supervised with their pumpkin carving, or perhaps give them an
assortment of fall-colored crayons to draw on the pumpkins.
Fall wedding
fare is traditionally hearty and rich. Roast turkey, rib roast,
and gamier meat for guests who have a taste for it, served with a
variety of squash, potatoes and beans, thick soups, and pumpkin or
nut breads. A nice salad of cold pasta and warm meat, such as
chicken, offers a nice seasonal alternative for those with lighter
appetites.
Baked apples
and hot cider top off the perfect autumn wedding cuisine. And don’t
forget the homemade pies. Serve an assortment, or to enhance the
festivities, set up a long table of homemade pies and breads. This
is the perfect fall decor for the center of your reception hall,
and guests can wander over and select what they’d like.
Flowers in
dark rich colors, such as roses and sunflowers, along with sprigs
of wildflowers and herbs complete the perfect picture for a
memorable autumn wedding. And don’t forget the colorful fall leaves.
Pick up some fall leaves at a craft store, use a gold pen to
sketch the name of the bride and groom and the wedding date and
place, and the fall leaves make a perfect keepsake for your
romantic fall wedding.
