A Christmas Wedding Is Filled With Possibilities

Christmas is a wonderful time of year for a wedding celebration. Everyone’s in a festive holiday mood. The world seems magical. If you choose to have a Christmas wedding, the holiday season will always be extra special for you.

With a Christmas wedding, the possibilities for decorations are as unlimited as your imagination. Christmas means lots of evergreens, deep burgundy, sparkling silver and glittering gold. Ornaments, candles, snowflakes, candy canes… with a Christmas wedding, you can be as creative as you want, and no one will think your decorations are over the top.

Even if you prefer a minimalist look for your Christmas wedding, some simple evergreen garlands or wreaths, red bows, and white candles or white twinkle lights will transform your wedding hall into a holiday wonderland. If your wedding ceremony will be held in a church, you’ll often find similar decor already in place for the Christmas worship season, and you might not need to add any decorations of your own for the wedding ceremony.

To bring out the brightness and warmth of the season, consider selecting deep and glittering colors against a white background. White swags, white columns, white tablecloths, white aisle runner or miniature snowflakes scattered down the aisle, white lights… all accented with greenery and gold and red ribbons, tinsel or ornaments that will make your Christmas wedding sparkle.

With a Christmas wedding, you can create two completely different holiday atmospheres: one in the church or site of the wedding ceremony and a different atmosphere in the reception hall. One might be a glittering world of silver and gold and white twinkle lights, while the other might be a multi-colored festive Christmas wonderland. One might be an old-fashioned setting with traditional hues such as burgundy and forest green, while the other might resemble a contemporary ice festival, with lots of silver and white.

Whatever style of decorations you choose for your wedding reception hall, be sure to include a Christmas tree. You can decorate the tree in the same color scheme as the rest of your wedding decor. Or decorate the tree with special keepsake ornaments that each wedding guest can take home.

If it fits within your budget, it might be nice to include several Christmas trees with different color schemes or decoration themes. Your reception hall will be transformed into a beautiful pine forest and the different themes of each decorated Christmas tree will create a magical effect. Just be sure that if you use real pine trees to keep them far enough away from the guest tables so they won’t bother guests that might be allergic.

For a nice additional touch, include an ice sculpture or a gingerbread house in your reception hall decorations. And don’t forget the mistletoe.

Dress the bridal party in shades of burgundy or forest green, with gold or silver jewelry. Velvet provides a great accent to bridal party dress for a Christmas wedding. Or consider an old-fashioned Dickensian look that captures the magic of Christmas past.

Many couples that choose to have a Christmas wedding think their musical possibilities are limited to Christmas hymns and carols. That’s just for starters. A Christmas wedding ceremony is the perfect setting for lots of classical music, and you can use a live orchestra or recordings.

If your Christmas wedding ceremony will be held in a church, you might benefit from some of the seasonal music prepared by the church choirs – adult choirs, youth or children’s choirs, and English handbell choirs. A musical piece from a Christmas cantata the choir has already prepared or performed might be perfect for your Christmas wedding.

Christmas wedding menus are also filled with possibilities. The main entrees can include turkey, ham and beef roast, plus lots of hearty seasonal vegetable and rice or potato dishes and vegetable soup for guests who prefer to eat vegetarian. Include lots of decorated cookies and sweet breads, and don’t forget the hot chocolate, cider and eggnog. A candy cane at every place setting makes the holiday atmosphere complete.
