Make Her Wedding Shower Memorable
When the bride-to-be is your sister or best friend, you want to
make her wedding shower the most memorable party she's ever had.
While the wedding shower party decorations won't make or break the
afternoon, they can add a special personal touch that she'll
remember forever. Instead of using traditional wedding shower
party decorations, theme the party decor around her personal
interests for a special day she'll always treasure.
Key in on your friend's interests to come up with a theme that
suits her personally. Would she prefer a sit-down dinner at a nice
restaurant or a casual slumber party with just a few close
friends? If you're the only one hosting a wedding shower for
the bride-to-be, you have a lot more leeway in its planning.
You wouldn't want to invite her future mother-in-law to a
bachelorette party shower with the Chippendales, for instance -
and if someone else is having a more formal shower, you don't have
to worry about it. If the shower you're planning is the only one,
though, remember that wedding etiquette says you should invite the
female relatives on both sides as well as the bride's friends. Now
that we've got that caveat out of the way, here are several ideas
for suiting your wedding party decorations to your friend's tastes
and preferences.
Have a pre-wedding cookout at the local state park if the weather
is nice. Contact park authorities in advance to find out if it's
possible to rent their covered dining space for an afternoon, or
to erect a rented tent for the festivities.
If it's allowed, arrive a few hours early with a friend or three
to decorate. Twine garlands of flowers around support posts and
pillars. Attach cascades of ribbons to the posts to flutter in the
wind. Pick up inexpensive windsocks at a dollar store or
department store to hang from the eaves and rafters and add a
bright, festive touch to the utilitarian surroundings. If you
decide to use balloons, make sure that they're securely fastened
so that the wind doesn't carry off all the decorations.
At a more traditional wedding shower hosted in an event hall,
decorate with a lace and eyelet trimmed wishing well - then take
it a step further by creating smaller replicas as table
centerpieces for each table. Rather than buying floral
arrangements, pick up pots of herbs or trailing ivy to place
inside the well and spill over the sides. Extend the theme to the
shower favors - fill miniature crystal wishing wells with candied
almonds or multicolored pastel M&Ms.
For a unique wedding shower centerpiece, create swans and hearts
from balloons and place them on a circular mirror. Encircle the
edges of the mirror with a wreath of roses, or if you're feeling
really creative, decorate it with icing rosettes to match the
shower cake.
Is the bride-to-be a rainbow lover? Rainbows are a great,
versatile decorating theme for a wedding shower. Their promise of
hope and beauty is a wish that any bride will love, but if your
bride-to-be has a special fondness for them, it's an especially
nice motif to use for her wedding shower.
Create a rainbow arch of multi-colored balloons and set her chair
under it for a special touch. Tie 1/8" ribbons in rainbow colors
around rolled napkins and let the ends trail, or use them to
create 'pom-pom' flowers for a centerpiece.
A pretty idea for wedding shower favors to go with a rainbow idea
is individual mint tins with a printed rainbow and an
inspirational saying.
