Choose The Location For Your Wedding Reception Carefully!
Few things contribute to the atmosphere and theme of your
wedding reception as much as the place in which it is held. Who
hasn't seen stories on the evening news about couples who
exchanged vows in midair, or in the center ring at the circus?
Even if you're not quite that adventurous, you can choose an
unusual, beautiful locale for your wedding reception will set the
theme for your wedding in a memorable, beautiful location. All it
takes is a little creative thought and an eye for the unusual.
What better setting is there for a fairy tale or Renaissance
themed wedding than a real castle? If you live in New England, you
could choose to marry at Higgins Armory, in Worcester,
Massachusetts. The unusual glass and steel castle hosts one of the
largest collections of medieval arms and armor in the world. They
also rent the Great Hall for wedding receptions, and their
packages can include such special touches as a real knight to
preside at the reception, or a demonstration of fencing to provide
entertainment.
If Massachusetts is a little out of the way for your wedding
reception, don't despair. There are literally hundreds of castles
throughout the United States, and many of them are available for
wedding receptions and special events.
Have you always dreamed of being married by the Captain of a
luxury liner at sea? Rent a cruise ship or yacht for the evening
and host your reception in an elegant setting with the background
of the ocean and sky. You don't have to live on the ocean to
indulge your fantasy of a wedding on the water. Rent a party boat
for a lake cruise reception, or on the river. Moonlight cruise
wedding receptions are an especially romantic theme.
Want a garden wedding but have a lawn the size of a postage stamp?
You could turn to a friend with a large backyard, or you could
open the telephone book and find the closest botanical garden.
Many have special wedding reception packages that include tents,
catering and flower arrangements from their own gardens.
The gardens will be beautiful, and you'll have the benefit of an
experienced staff to point out the loveliest places for photos and
make suggestions for table decorations and reception ideas. To add
a special touch, hire a string trio for the afternoon instead of a
band and have an elegant garden tea wedding.
Take a step back to the past with a colonial wedding. Imagine
arriving at the church in a horse-drawn surrey or sleigh to find
the shimmering beauty of a hundred lanterns lining the walkway to
the doors. A wedding at Old Sturbridge Village in Sturbridge,
Massachusetts is a step away from the hustle of the modern world into a time when life was
simple, and love was a lifelong commitment.
Old Sturbridge Village is a restored colonial village open to the
public during the day. In the evenings, the facilities are
available for weddings and events. The wedding packages include
authentically costumed servers, transportation to the Meeting
House for the bride and groom by horse-drawn surrey (or sleigh,
weather permitting), wedding cake, champagne toast and keepsake
wedding glasses and knife. For an additional charge, your guests
can be picked up and transported to the wedding in a horse-drawn
carriage. Dinner and buffet selections are available.
For a similar wedding without traveling to Massachusetts, check
with your local Historical Society for historical homes and
restaurants that offer events catering.
