Choosing The Perfect Wedding Invitations

You can set the tone for your wedding day from the very beginning by choosing wedding invitations that suit the theme of your wedding. An elegant wedding calls for elegantly styled wedding invitations. A casual gathering can be announced with less formal wedding invitations. If you've chosen a special theme like angels, the beach or a colonial wedding, you can choose invitations that set the mood and fit the theme, or create your own for a special, personalized touch.

Choosing your invitation style isn't the only way to add a personal touch and incorporate your theme when you send out invitations for your wedding. Use some of these ideas as inspiration to make your wedding invitations a special start to one of the most exciting and romantic times of your life.

To emphasize a tropical theme wedding, choose invitations that feature tropical flowers, or have a romantic soft touch island photo as a background. Translucent overlays are a popular way to include photos and artwork as part of the wedding invitation.

For a formal wedding, go the whole nine yards with the invitations.  Increasingly, brides are choosing to send out more simple invitations, without enclosure cards and inner envelopes to save money on printing and postage. If you're planning an all-out traditional, formal wedding, emphasize the elegance with foil-lined inner envelopes and classic raised engraving.

Use language to help set the tone for your wedding. The words you choose are the first impression that guests will have. For a formal wedding, use traditional wording: Mr. & Mrs. Ethan Johnson request the honor of your presence at the wedding of their daughter... To set a more informal tone, use something like 'Jennifer and James invite you to share in the day as they celebrate the magic of their love by exchanging vows.

To add a magical touch to invitations to a fairy tale themed wedding, sprinkle a pinch of 'fairy dust' into the envelope before sealing it.  We've seen many suggestions for using glitter this way - but we prefer confetti in festive shapes. The larger shapes are far less likely to end up annoying the invitation recipients by clinging to their clothing and carpets - but still deliver the same special magic with your invitation.

You can add a regal note to any invitation by sealing the envelope with gold sealing wax and stamping with an emblem of your wedding theme. You can find wax stamps to leave impressions of angels, wedding bells, conch shells or nearly anything else you can imagine.

Many brides are choosing to print the envelopes for their wedding invitations for a neat, uniform appearance. Special wedding fonts for most word processing programs can even simulate engraving on every envelope. Still, there's no substitute for a hand-addressed invitation in elegant calligraphy. It adds a touch of personal elegance to your wedding theme.
