Wedding Altar Decor Ideas
Wedding Ideas For Your Altar Decor
When you're planning the decorations for your wedding, don't
forget the church! The altar decor that you choose can subtly
reinforce the theme of your day and be a silent statement of your
reverence. It's far harder to find information on wedding altar decor and
ideas for church decorations than it is to find
suggestions for wedding reception decorations.
One easy way to
find altar decor and ideas is to ask your wedding planner, or shop
around town at several different florists. Most florists include
church flowers in even their most basic wedding package, but if
you're looking for something more special, take a look at some of
the altar decor ideas below.
Holiday weddings make it easy on you! At Easter or Christmas, mass
potted seasonal plants at the edge of the altar. White and red
poinsettias bunched on either side of the aisle opening will frame
pictures beautifully, as will several pots of full-blown lilies.
Add tulle bows to each pot for an airy, fairy-bride look.
If your church has an altar rail, twine it with a garland of
flowers to match the wedding theme. You can wrap the rail with ivy
and white roses or a garland of spectacular wildflowers. Having an
island wedding? Leis of Plumeria in your wedding colors can create
a beautiful garland for the altar rail.
If your church allows it, frame the end of the aisle in a tulle
and flower bedecked arch to add to the formal, festive air of the
day. Don't overlook balloons either. While they may sound
whimsical and informal, a beribboned balloon arch that floats
above the aisle can be an elegant, untraditional touch.
Think beyond the floor and altar surfaces for decor ideas. Deck
the front of the podium with a fluffy, oversize tulle bow holding
a spray of lilies or Shasta daisies to create a focal point to one
side. Hang wreaths of wildflowers twined in grapevine on the
sanctuary and church doors to greet guests as they arrive.
Place
flower stands on either side of the altar to hold formal
arrangements. Mark the bride's aisle with a row of tulle bows and
delicate flowers hung from the end of each pew.
If you're looking for still more wedding altar decor and ideas that you
can use for your church wedding, don't overlook one obvious source
- ask your parish priest or deacon. They've seen hundreds of
weddings at the very church you're decorating. Take advantage of
their experience and knowledge to glean a few ideas that can make
your day just a little more perfect.
