Do It Yourself Balloon Cloud Wedding Decorations!
You're wedding is a heavenly day. Why not decorate your
reception to match? These balloon cloud wedding decorations will
bring an airy touch of magic to your wedding.
You can order the Cloud 9 balloon wedding decoration from your
florist or a local balloon dealer, but if you have the time and
inclination, they're not difficult to make yourself. A standard
decoration of this type is three floating clouds above the head
table, but you can also create smaller ones as table centerpieces
for each table.
For each balloon cloud wedding decoration, you'll need the
following:
9 11" latex balloons in the wedding colors
1 16" clear latex balloon
10-15 lb monofilament fishing line (transparent)
6-10 yards ribbon to match balloons
To Create The Double Balloon Top:
1. Slip the eraser end of a pencil into the neck of un-inflated
11" balloon, then push balloon into the neck of un-inflated 16"
clear balloon.
2. Helium inflate inner balloon. Knot inside neck only.
3. Slip neck of outside balloon over helium nozzle, holding inside
balloon neck to one side. Inflate outer balloon. Knot both necks
together.
To Create The Balloon Cloud
1. Tie two foot length of fishing line to neck of balloon. Tie a
second line to neck, approximately the length of the distance from
your anchoring point to the height you want the balloons to
'float'. (i.e. - if you are anchoring balloons by tying to backs
of chair, measure distance from chair back to height above table
you want balloons to float)
2. Inflate two balloons, and knot necks together.
3. Inflate two balloons, knot necks together, and then twist the
two balloon-clusters together to create a four balloon cluster.
4. Pull the shorter monofilament line attached to the larger
balloon through the intersection at the center of the four
balloons.
5. Secure tightly with fishing line, wrapping in a figure-8 around
each double-cluster of balloons.
6. Repeat steps 2 and 3 with remaining four balloons to create a
second cluster of balloons.
7. Attach lower cluster to arrangement with longer monofilament
line only, using figure-8 looping to hold in place.
8. Tie two lines together, snuggling knot up into lower cluster,
and trimming shorter end.
9. To add tulle swag, pull a 1 yard length of tulle through space
between two lower balloon clusters. Tie in loose bow, letting ends
dangle.
10. Use monofilament line to attach arrangement to an anchor on
the table.
11. If desired, you can use tulle swags to create an elegant drape
between clouds. Simply measure a length of tulle equal to the
desired distance between balloon clouds, plus a foot or so for
drape. Slip tulle through space between upper and lower clusters
and secure in place with a twist of monofilament.
12. To join three or more clusters, measure the length of tulle
for the full length - i.e. - for three clouds set three feet
apart, you'll need 6+2 feet. Slide tulle through space between
bottom two clusters, positioning balloon clouds evenly with drape
between them.
That's all there is to creating balloon cloud wedding decorations.
You can float one above each table, or create several to float
above the heads of the happy couple and the wedding party. To
accent the cloud balloon wedding decorations, consider adding a
helium filled arch of balloons in the same or contrasting colors
at the door to the hall, or over the wedding cake table.
