Nothing Says 60th Wedding Anniversary Party Better Than Diamonds!
Diamonds are forever - which is what makes them the perfect
symbol for a 60th wedding anniversary. Traditionally, couples
reaching their 60th wedding anniversary are given gifts of
diamonds. If you're planning a 60th wedding anniversary party,
your decorations can take on a diamond theme.
You can add glitter with rhinestones and crystals, and use them to
dance rainbows around the hall. 60th wedding anniversary
decorations can include all the previous wedding anniversaries as
well - make it a gold, silver and diamond jubilee.
In 1897, Queen Victoria celebrated her own Diamond Jubilee - 60
years on the throne. If you're a British citizen marking your 60th
wedding anniversary, you can apply to the British Anniversaries
Office for a special greeting from the Queen to the happy couple.
Just allow several weeks before the anniversary for the message to
arrive. Framed, it will make the perfect centerpiece for the
anniversary party table.
If neither of the couple is a British citizen, you can still get a
special greeting for them. Contact the office of your state
Senator, your Governor or even the President. Nearly any elected
official will most happily acknowledge the special event with an
official greeting and congratulations that will be treasured after
the party.
Decorate each table with a bowl of 'diamonds'. Fill a glass bubble
bowl with glittering crystals arranged in the center of a diamond
of candles. To add a note of fun, make a diamond shaped piñata and
hang it in the center of the hall. Fill it with 'diamond' baubles
that you pick up for a few dollars each - costume jewelry
earrings, necklaces, rings and bracelets. Just imagine the oohs
and aahs when the piñata breaks to release a shower of diamonds!
Commission an ice sculpture for the center of the buffet table.
There's a reason that 'ice' is a slang word for diamonds - nothing
else glitters and refracts light in quite the same way. Choose a
symbol of everlasting love - a pair of swans with a heart between
them, perhaps, or go simple and basic with an enormous 60 in
gleaming ice. Most sculptors guarantee that their creation will
last up to six hours under normal room conditions.
Be playful with the theme. Cut the cake into diamond shaped
slices, fold napkins into diamonds instead of triangles and serve
puff pastry in diamond shapes. For extra glitter, sprinkle silver
sparkles on the tablecloths. Use miniature white Christmas lights
to create a sky full of diamonds by twining them around the edges
of the room or along the sides of the head table through garlands
of ivy and roses.
Give the 60th anniversary couple a very special gift. Turn their
party into a walk down memory lane - with a twist. Decorate the
hall with icons from the year they were married, find a band that
can play songs that were popular that year (special bonus if you
can actually get them to play the first dance song from their
wedding) and present them with a newspaper from the date of their
wedding.
Even better if you can find the newspaper in which their wedding
announcement appeared. Have the announcement itself enlarged and
framed in a frame engraved with the dates of their marriage. The
60th wedding anniversary decorations that you choose can help make
the day as memorable and lasting as their marriage has been.
